Nothing says urban farm like a sunlit meal brought to you by a construction vehicle. These hungry fowl are Lavender Orpingtons, a relatively scarce color variation on the popular Orpington heritage breed: hardy, self-sufficient birds with fluffy pantaloons. They lay pretty reliably through the winter and are reputed to be very good sitters and mothers to their young chicks. We've noticed they also like to make a very assertive, yet pleasant "announcement" when they lay an egg. And really, who wouldn't? Imagine laying an egg every day. Phew!
A family-run homestead. A healthy local food hub. A radically inclusive hands-on school. A community kitchen. A safe space for all. A supportive place for parents to learn WITH their families. A little slice of the country smack dab in the city.
